Published Student Dissertations 

I am committed to training doctoral students for vocations both within and outside the academy. I have served as director, co-director, or reader on over 20 dissertations in the US, UK, and Australia. Listed below are the published dissertations on which I have served as director or co-director. 

Ruben Bredenhof, Failure and Prospect: Lazarus and the Rich Man (Luke 16:19-31) in the Context of Luke-Acts (Library of New Testament Studies 603; London: Bloomsbury/T&T Clark, 2016). 

Zechariah Eberhart, Between Script and Scripture: Performance Criticism and Mark's Characterization of the Disciples (Biblical Interpretation Series 220; Leiden: Brill, 2024). 

Along with Prof. Steve Walton, I served as co-director for this doctoral thesis at St. Mary's University (Twickenham, London) between 2013 and 2016.

I directed this dissertation at Loyola University Chicago between 2021 and 2023. Zach's work was awarded "Dissertation of the Year" within the humanities division of Loyola's graduate school for the 2022-2023 academic year. Zach defended this dissertation with distinction in the spring of 2023.


 

Jonathan W. Bryant, Compassion and the Characterization of the Markan Jesus (Biblical Interpretation Series 223; Leiden: Brill, 2024). 

Scott K. Brevard, Jesus, the Temple, and Early Christian Memory (Eugene, OR: Pickwick, 2025).
 

I directed this dissertation at Loyola University Chicago between 2020 and 2023. Jon defended his dissertation with distinction in the spring of 2023.
